Anyone else here a fan of survival horror games?
I've not played Silent Hill 4 yet, but I've heard that it's not amazing, certainly not in the way Silent Hill 2 was. That game was a twisted mind-trip, and I was a bit disappointed that Silent Hill 3 didn't continue in the same vein.
My other all-time favourite would have to be Project Zero (Fatal Frame). Played in the dark, with the surround sound cranked right up, it was one of the creepiest experiences of my life.

Sun, October 17, 2004 - 10:10 PMI love survival horror games...huge fan. I can't believe there is someone else out there that has played "Fatal Frame"! Most people I talk to have never heard of it. Part 2 is just as good...and creepy.

Re: Horror Games
Sun, October 17, 2004 - 11:06 PMYou know, it's funny - I never played through Crimson Butterfly to the end. I have it, and I played a couple of hours worth, and I had a run around in all the different costumes (the goth lolita ones were so cute!), but then something else came along, and it just kind of faded into the background ... I really am going to have to finish it one of these days. -

Sun, October 17, 2004 - 11:16 PMIt isn't as good as the first one...obviously but nearly as good and it still freaks me out. That, to me, makes it a good game...when playing it causes me to jump, and glance around the corners of the dark room I am playing in.

Mon, October 18, 2004 - 2:07 PMAh, Manhunt. There's a ban on that game here because of the incident back in February. Yes, still. Yes, even though the game had nothing to do with the murder at all.

Re: Horror Games
Tue, October 19, 2004 - 4:30 PMOMG, you mean you didn't hear about that? Wow. Well, here's one of the original news stories:
www.citron.co.uk/news/news_247.html
It later turned out that Manhunt belonged to the victim, not the murderer, and that the boy had been killed because the older kid wanted drug money. Of course, this raised more questions than it answered - namely, how did a fourteen-year-old boy get a game that requires age verification to purchase, and what the hell were his parents doing?
If you do a Google search with the words "manhunt" and "pakeerah", you should find heaps of articles. There was a huge media frenzy over it at the time.
I live in Australia. Our games here don't actually have a restricted age classification. I think the Office of Film and Literature Classification is thinking of changing that, but as a result, there are some games that don't make it through here, and some games are censored. The last two GTA games have had features removed before they could go on sale in Australia.
